The Mid-Missouri Parrot Head Club will host its second annual “The Big H — Harmony, Hands and Heart for Columbia” fundraiser from 6 to 11 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, at Mojo’s, 1013 Park Ave.

The night’s entertainment will be provided by local musicians Steve Meyerhardt, Rocket & Doc, Crazyfish and Banastre Tarleton. Margaritaville Foods will provide shrimp, and Sam and Lisa Bennett will bring barbecue. A silent auction and raffle will also be held.

The nonprofit organization volunteers for charity work and educational endeavors, looking to “promote the general welfare of the community,” according to the group’s national website.

“We’re made up of people who like the music of Jimmy Buffett,” said Christy Welliver, president of the Mid-Missouri Parrot Head Club. “And people who want to leave this world in a better way then we found it.”

Seventy-five people attended last year’s event, raising $1800 for the event’s beneficiaries — True North, Welcome Home Inc. and the Community Garden Coalition.

“It’s not just money raised,” Welliver said. “It’s giving things to people who are giving their time and their labor.”

“We are very grateful,” said True North Director Barbara Hodges. “It’s a great way to get information about sexual violence and raise awareness.”

Tickets for the event are $10 in advance. To purchase, call (573) 449-0904. You can also buy tickets at the door for $12.
