SCHOOLS: JEFF JR.
By CATHERINE NEWHOUSE
Jefferson Junior High School will host its annual chili supper from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday night in the school’s cafeteria to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the building opening its doors in 1911.
The event will feature jazz band and choir performances, a raffle and a silent auction.
Thaddues Hamilton, assistant principal and athletic director, said the chili supper is an opportunity for the Jefferson Junior community to have fun while raising funds for the school. It is the third of four centennial events this year that welcome alumni back to the school. Students will give alumni tours of the building at the chili supper.
“We have a lot of people in this community familiar with Jeff Junior, and this is an opportunity to reconnect those individuals with those fond memories of going to school here and Columbia High School,” Hamilton said.
The school will serve chili, hot dogs, vegetables, dessert and drinks at the event. Raffle items will include a prize of $500, an Xbox 360, four tickets to a St. Louis Cardinals game and various $25 to $100 gift certificates to local restaurants.
Tickets are available at the door or ahead of time at the school’s main office. Tickets for the chili supper and a raffle ticket are $10, and tickets for the meal only are $4. Attendees can get a dollar off the ticket price by wearing a 100th anniversary shirt, available for purchase at the main office.
