A new and improved section of William Street is expected to open for two-way traffic later this month, according to Boone Hospital Center spokesman Jacob Luecke.

The renovation of South William Street between Broadway and Anthony Street was part of the patient tower construction project currently in progress at the hospital.

The blue line in the above shows the section of William Street undergoing renovations.

“While William Street is the front drive to Boone Hospital, it is also an important passageway for our neighbors and community members,” Luecke said. “Our work to transform the street will lead to a more beautiful and safer William Street for both drivers and pedestrians.”

Renovations include:

  • Widening William Street at the Broadway intersection.
  • Concrete roundabout at the intersection of Bass Avenue and William Street.
  • Masonry structures on four corners of the intersection of Bass Avenue and William Street.
  • New street lights on William Street and in front of the William Street Parking Garage entrance on Bass Avenue.

The street became one-way in June to regulate traffic while the construction work went on. In an interview in November, construction manager Scott Naeger had said keeping the street open for traffic during the construction phase had been one of the most challenging aspects of the project.

Bass Avenue opened for traffic in November.
