Grant school releases blues CD

A CD starring T.J. Wheeler and the Grant Elementary Blues Corp has been made and will be released soon, said Pamela Sisson, music teacher at Grant.

The CD commemorates the 100th anniversary of Grant and will have four songs on it, each representing a year the Blues Corps has run at Grant, Sisson said.

The first tune is written in 2010, it honors the rich history of Grant School and its 100th birthday,  Grant Gets the Job Done.

The 2009 song is “Ain’t Nothin’ Like Losing Your Cookies,” a song about how even though there are hard times, life goes on and you can make it through.

For 2008, the song is “Grant Rules the Green,” a song about Grant’s commitment to saving the environment and the opening of the Eco Schoolhouse.

For the year 2007, the song is “You Gotta See It to Believe It,” the Blues’ kick-off song.

The four songs on the CD were written during week-long blues residencies by Wheeler and a special performing group over the past four years, in association with the Roots ‘N’ Blues ‘N’ BBQ Festival where they were performed, Sisson said.

The funds received from the $10 CD sale will go into Grant’s fine arts program, Sisson said.

“We’ll send out fliers to our school family before the holiday,” Sisson said. “They’ll make a great holiday gift.”

People can call the school at (573) 214-3520 for further inquiries.
