Everyone from Toy Story‘s Woody and Buzz, to Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, attended Broadway Christian Church’s second annual Halloween event on Sunday.
The church’s parking lot was filled with cars and trucks with decorated trunks and truck-beds in anticipation of costumed children.
“They’ve been going crazy for the past three weeks,” Barb Stephenson said of the “trunk-or-treaters.” Stephenson is the coordinator of children’s ministries at Broadway.
It’s a great way to spread fellowship within the congregation, Stephenson said, and it’s a way for the children to see each other outside of Sunday School.
The festivities started at 3 p.m., so those who wished to go out later for more traditional trick or treating still had time to do so. The afternoon ended with a costume contest.
Children weren’t the only ones who came dressed for the occasion. Some parents felt the need to channel their inner Scooby Doo or Darth Vader. Unfortunately, they were ineligible for the costume contest.
There were more than 130 trunk-or-treaters last year and this year Stephenson said she expected over 200.
