Looking for something to do? Here are some of this month’s events at the Columbia Public Library.

Thursday, Nov. 4: First Thursday Book Discussion

Bring your lunch and discuss “Winter’s Bone,” a novel by Daniel Woodrell. Set in Missouri, “Winter’s Bone” is the story of a girl, searching for her absent, meth-cooking father. The book discussion will be held from noon to 1 p.m. and again from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Friends Room.

Friday, Nov. 12: Harry Potter Party

Gear up for the release of the next Harry Potter movie! Brush up on your trivia and come dressed as your favorite character. The fun starts at 3:30 p.m. in the Children’s Area Program Room. Registration for the event starts Tuesday, Nov. 2. Children ages 8 to 12 are encouraged to attend.

Monday, Nov. 15: Helping Paws, VOLaTILE Style

Calling all teens: join Volunteer Teens in Library Environments make toys and blankets for animals at the Central Missouri Humane Society from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Children’s Area Program Room. Snacks will be provided.
