Staff, students and faculty are preparing for a weekend full of homecoming activities Oct. 15 and Oct. 16 at Columbia College. The theme for the week is Welcome to Las Vegas!
As part of homecoming, the college’s Student Government Association will hold a 5K Saturday morning at Cosmo Park.
The association organizes a run/walk every year to benefit a local charity, said Elizabeth Ball, director of students activities and leadership.
“The students [in SGA] selected the Rainbow House from a list of non-profit organizations last spring because they felt strongly about their mission to keep children safe and to support families in crisis through prevention, assessment and intervention in child abuse and neglect,” Ball said.
Registration is $10 and includes a gift, according to the college’s website.
Alumni Relations are also planning activities to celebrate homecoming at Columbia College’s main campus, said Patricia Houston, assistant director for alumni relations.
“It’s going to be a busy weekend,” she said.
Alumni Relations will have a tent at Buchanan Hall lawn Saturday with alumni merchandise and a spin-the-wheel game for people to answer trivia questions and possibly win free merchandise, Houston said.
People can also take a picture with Scooter, Columbia College’s cougar mascot, Houston said. A photo booth will be available for people to get their picture taken.
“All of the events in our tent will be free for everyone,” Houston said.
At 3 p.m., the Cougars soccer team will face the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans in a conference match up, Assistant Director of Athletics Cindy Fotti said.
“It’s going to be a great game, we’re both kind of battling for the conference,” Fotti said.
The match is free to the public.
