Krista Kippenberger can get a free massage whenever she wants — it’s one of the perks of being married to a chiropractor. On Aug. 8, Curt and Krista opened their chiropractic clinic in Cherry Hill — Focus on Health Chiropractic at 4200 Merchant St.
“It’s just me and him, a husband and wife team,” Krista said. “I’m the office manager, and he’s the doctor.”
Krista and her husband grew up in Rolla and attended MU. Curt worked with the MU football team as a student athletic trainer while earning a degree in nutrition and fitness. Krista earned a degree in general studies. After Curt graduated from MU, he attended Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, but while in school at MU, the two fell in love with the town and decided they wanted to open a business here.
They chose Cherry Hill because as a student Curt had ridden his bike through the neighborhood hundreds of times and liked what he saw.
At first he was scared of opening his own business, but now Curt says he would highly recommend it.
“It’s a really great way to make a living,” he said.
It’s not so great for free time and leisure activities. Before opening the clinic, Curt used to race bicycles 30 to 38 weeks out of the year.
“I’ve been cycling since I was 4 years old,” he said. “It’s always been a huge part of my life.”
Since opening Focus on Health, his racing has been put on hold somewhat, but he’s not complaining. He gets to see his wife every day while passing on his knowledge of fitness and nutrition.
“Krista and I are blessed to have each other and to be going through this together,” he said.
When they’re not working, Krista and Curt are avid cyclists and enjoy rock climbing and hiking. They also love spending time with their Brittney spaniels, Parker and Payton.
When asked about the market for chiropractic services in Columbia, Curt said the city is full of “weekend warrior athletes, who are well educated and will seek out their best health and wellness goals.” Some of the services the clinic offers include acupuncture, chiropractic work, massage, HCG diets, functional rehabilitation, and athletic training and rehabilitation.
