The Parkade Elementary PTA met Tuesday with various staff members and parents to discuss its direction for the new school year.
The main focus of the meeting was to amend and vote on a new budget, which was unanimously approved. The biggest change was combining “Field Trips” with “Supplies for Teachers,” increasing the amount from $1,000 to $3,000. Money allotments from the addition will be divided by class and possibly by a percentage of student population per class. See the old budget and the new approved budget.
In other news, the recently planted garden has sprouted radishes. Sometime next month the vegetables will be harvested and tasted by participating students and teachers.
Suggestions for the future included:
- Inviting a blues musician to teach children and help them prepare for a performance at the Roots ‘N’ Blues ‘N’ BBQ Festival. In previous years, the program has been done at Grant Elementary with musician T.J. Wheeler; this year, Wheeler also was at West Boulevard Elementary School.
- Bringing a “body walk” program to the school for a few days in which children will learn about the different functions of the body at school. Parents could then come at a scheduled time in the evening and be led through the program by their kids.
