“Vertigo”: MU Jazz, Mainieri concert and CD release

The music of Grammy-nominated composer Mike Mainieri will be performed at 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts.

The concert will also showcase the talents of the MU Concert Jazz Band. The band recorded its first album, Vertigo: The Music of Mike Mainieri, in May, according to an MU news release. The album will be released at the concert.

Arthur White, the director of jazz studies at MU will direct the performance, according to the release.

Mainieri and MU first teamed up in November 2009. In addition to the Jazz Band, Mainieri has also worked with:

  • Paul Simon
  • Bonnie Raitt
  • Aerosmith
  • Billy Joel
  • James Taylor
  • Dire Straits and others

The concert is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted.

The Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts is located at 203 S 9th Street.
