It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood

A neighborhood is commonly defined as a region, a reference to a specific location.

I think a neighborhood, in reality, is defined by the people who live there.

My name is Katie Bevan and this semester I am a reporter at the Missourian. My beat is the Cherry Hill, Stonecrest, Fairview area.

Hyperlocal journalism (the term for what this blog does) is near and dear to my heart. I have interned twice at Advocate magazine in Dallas, TX, and that publication is devoted entirely to neighborhood coverage. I focused on Far North Dallas, which is where I was born and raised. Obviously, I had the “home court advantage”. I knew that place like the back of my hand and was truly surprised when went to the store and didn’t meet someone I know.

Now I want to get to know your neighborhood. I want to know the places, the people, the real inner workings. When I’m done, I’d like to feel like a neighbor.

In the famous words of Mister Rogers, please won’t you be my neighbor?

(nostalgia available here)

My email is, and I would love to hear what you have to share with me about your neighborhood.
