‘Tasting the Sky’ author to speak at United Methodist Church on Sept. 1

Author and MU alumna Ibtisam Barakat will speak at 10 a.m., Sept. 1 at Missouri United Methodist Church. Barakat, a Columbia writer and poet, will give a presentation about her book, “Tasting the Sky: A Palestinian Childhood,” at the church’s Women’s monthly meeting, which takes place in the parlor.

“She’s a beautiful writer,” said Diane Fitzgerald, the church member who scheduled Barakat’s appearance. “You can really tell she’s a poet.”

Fitzgerald expects an audience of 50, but the presentation is open to the public. Books will be available for purchase and to be signed by the author at the event, according to the weekly church newsletter, The Messenger.
