May 15 —Douglass Park to celebrate birthday of J. W. “Blind” Boone

Douglass Park will kick off this summer’s park activities with a celebration of the birthday of J. W. “Blind” Boone at Heritage Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, May 15 to 16. The event stretches from 3 to 7:30 p.m. and is free.

Heritage Weekend will provide various kinds of entertainment including music, youth and adult games, and more.

May 15 — “The Princess and the Frog” at the Armory

The Amory Sports Center continues its movie night this month with Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” from 6 to 8:30 p.m. May 15. As always, the event is free and includes popcorn and juice. For more information, call 874-6378.

May 19 — Family Fun Fest at Flat Branch Park

Looking for fun ways to get fit? Then Family Fun Fest is the answer. On Wednesday, May 19 at Flat Branch Park, the ARC is sponsoring demonstrations on everything from dancing to bicycling and martial arts. The event lasts from 6 to 8 p.m.

Music, art and hands-on activities, face painting, balloon-animals, bounce-houses and more are also features at the event.  Family Fun Fests will continue through the summer on every third Wednesday through September. For more information on this event, call Tammy Miller at 874-7465.
