Seven Columbia elementary schools receive state honor

On May 3, Benton Elementary, along with Bearfield, Cedar Ridge, Mill Creek, Parkade and Rock Bridge elementary schools received the Bronze Level of Distinction from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for their continued progress in executing Positive Behavior Support.

Positive Behavior Support is a collaborative operation for structuring the learning environment to reinforce academic as well as social results for all students. This is the first award for Benton, Bearfield, Cedar Creek and Parkade. Mill Creek and Rock Bridge received the award two years in a row.

Derby Ridge Elementary School has received the honor of Silver Level of Distinction. They were recognized at the bronze level for the 2008-09 school year.

The schools will be recognized at a banquet in June for their achievements.
